TWO WAYS INTO THE DARK
A short time ago, these were just ideas.
Now there are two books sitting under the Distorted Light Studio name, and although they’re very different books, they came from the same place.
THE HOUSE OF BROKEN SLEEP: COLLECTED NIGHTMARES is the storytelling side.
It’s a collection of 17 horror stories built around strange places, unsettling encounters, things that shouldn’t be there, and the feeling that something is wrong long before you understand what it is.
Some of the stories are supernatural. Some lean into psychological horror. Others take ordinary situations and push them just far enough into the dark that they stop feeling ordinary.
Then there’s DARKNESS BETWEEN THE LINES: ADULT HORROR COLORING BOOK.
Instead of telling you the nightmare, this one gives you the imagery and lets you decide what to do with it.
Inside are 40 detailed black-and-white horror illustrations featuring ruined places, twisted figures, unnatural creatures, gothic environments, and other things that probably shouldn’t be waiting for you between the pages.
The artwork is printed single-sided so each illustration has its own page and can be approached however you want. Color it traditionally, make it ugly, make it beautiful, make it disturbing, or leave half of it in darkness.
That’s part of what I like about having these two books together.
One asks you to imagine the darkness.
The other asks you to put your own colors into it.
They weren’t originally planned as companion books. They simply grew out of the same creative space, and somewhere along the way I realized they belonged beside each other.
Two different books.
Two different experiences.
Two ways into the dark.
