I recently wrote a short horror story called “The Previous Tenant Left Me a List of Rules” and posted it to Reddit. The premise is simple: someone moves into apartment 3B and discovers that the previous tenant left behind a list of rules.
The problem isn't finding the list.
It's discovering why those rules exist.
I originally posted the story simply because I wanted to write another piece of horror and see what happened. I wasn't expecting much beyond a few readers. Instead, the story started spreading through r/horrorstories and eventually became my #1 Reddit post of all time, reaching more than nearly 20K views and being shared dozens of times.
That part still amazes me.
Numbers aren't really why I write these stories, but knowing that thousands of complete strangers encountered something I created is pretty damn cool. What started as another creepy idea became one of my most-read pieces on Reddit.
